May brings rainbows, and June will be bringing Waimea Community Chorus to Kahilu Theatre to sing in and about them, as the choral group presents its 21st annual Spring Concert, “Singin’ in the Rainbow.”

May brings rainbows, and June will be bringing Waimea Community Chorus to Kahilu Theatre to sing in and about them, as the choral group presents its 21st annual Spring Concert, “Singin’ in the Rainbow.”

Featuring a wide variety of popular tunes on the theme of colors and rainbows, the audience can plan to be delighted by renditions of “Red Roses for a Blue Lady,” “Blue Moon,” “Pink Panther,” “Deep Purple,” “Yellow Submarine” and many more. As one might guess, “Over the Rainbow” will be an anchor for the program, but many other color-themed ballads and melodies will round out the program.

This concert will include choral numbers featuring the entire 60-plus member group, as well as a variety of selections featuring only male or female voices, and smaller groups including a cappella numbers, a barbershop quartet and comic relief. The chorus is directed by Barbara Kopra.

Performances are slated at 7 p.m. on June 13 and 3 p.m. on June 14 at the Waimea theater.

Tickets range from $18 for adults to $10 for children, with discounts for senior citizens, military, and students. Advance purchase tickets, with a presale discount, are available at Waimea General Store and Without Boundaries Gifts in Waimea, from Waikoloa Mailbox, and Suite Possibilities in Kailua-Kona. Tickets can also be purchased online at kahilutheatre.org.

Founded in 1994, the Waimea Community Chorus is a subdivision of Waimea Community Theatre, the state’s third oldest theatre company. Under four directors over the years, the group has performed everything from Big Band to Gospel concerts, with previous years’ themes devoted to American places, personal names, love songs, Oscar winners, rock favorites, songs of the 1960s, and various takes on Broadway.
